The Monarch Butterflies Are Back On Cape Cod!

You know that summer is really here when the Monarch butterflies are back here on Cape Cod. They are so beautiful with their orange and black distinctive colors. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

This is the first Monarch butterfly that I’ve seen so far this summer, yesterday morning at Fort Hill. It landed right on a Milkweed plant which is what they love to feed on.

Have you seen a Monarch butterfly yet this year?

  1. The monarch butterfly will go to many flowers. However it only lays eggs on milkweed plants. Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed and it makes them taste terrible. A bird may try to eat one once but never again. The monarchs you see flying south in September are the ones that fly to Mexico and over winter in the mountains and fly back to the far southern states to start the 5 generation cycle over again.
