Beautiful Belted Kingfishers Feeding At Arey’s Pond On Cape Cod.

We had stopped to watch all of the bird activity at Arey’s Pond the other morning when we saw 3 Belted Kingfishers flying about looking for food. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

I couldn’t get them all in one frame but this one looked like a baby waiting for his parent to feed him. Meanwhile, we watched the adult eat what looked like a turtle and then something else…maybe a fish?

What a great experience and so much fun to watch!

  1. Belted Kingfishers are such a beautiful bird! I love to hear their loud calls as they swoop over the water. Thank you, Mel, for this beautiful photo .

  2. Impressive catch in both photos!
I love this quote from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belted_kingfisher:

“As the kingfisher flies about its habitat, it frequently emits a characteristic rattling call.[20] Accordingly, a small group of belted kingfishers is known as a rattle, concentration, or kerfuffle.[21][22]”

    You saw a kerfuffle! 🙂
