It’s Time To Clean Out Your Bird Houses!

After all of the birds inhabiting your bird houses and have had young ones who have fledged and everyone is gone, it’s time to clean out your bird houses. (Click on blog link for more photos.)

We were so surprised to see how different each nest was when we opened the bird houses. The family of Carolina Wrens had a nest made of little twigs with a few pieces of soft feathers.

I think the next nest was a Black-Capped Chickadee. It was a much softer nest.
And I’m not sure what was in this last one, but it too, was very soft.

Have you cleaned out your houses yet so they are ready for next spring? Or… maybe someone will move in for the winter to stay warm? We frequently have Downy Woodpeckers who spend the winter in our bird houses.
