Lots Of Ice On Cape Cod Bay.

What a cold and windy winter we’ve had so far here on the Cape… with lots of wind chills in the teens. I took a ride to Boat Meadow Beach yesterday afternoon and was surprised to see so much ice on Cape Cod Bay.

With the forecast for windchills below zero on Saturday and the possibility of a huge snowstorm on Sunday and into Monday, it will be interesting to see what Cape Cod Bay looks like next week!

  1. From NOAA:

Ocean water freezes just like freshwater, but at lower temperatures. Fresh water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit but seawater freezes at about 28.4 degrees Fahrenheit, because of the salt in it. When seawater freezes, however, the ice contains very little salt because only the water part freezes. It can be melted down to use as drinking water.
