When we first moved to Cape Cod 11 years ago, we used to see Bobwhites everywhere. We’d frequently hear their distinct call of “Bob-white, Bob-white!” (Click on blog link for other photo.)
Over the years, we’ve seen less and less of them until we hadn’t seen any in a couple of years. I saw one a few weeks ago and I was so excited. And then, just the other day, we saw this guy scurrying down the road. What a treat!
I was able to roll down my window and get a few photos as he ran down the road and then into the brush. I wonder if it’s the same one I saw a few weeks ago? I sure hope there is another one nearby so they can make some little ones!!

We used to have the babies run across our yard, 20 plus years ago. A lucky sight for you to see.
I fell in love with bobwhites at my grandparents house in Eastham when we visited every summer. My grandmother loved the birds and was always feeding them and I remember always hearing bobwhites in the woods surrounding their house. I have only seen and heard 1 here in CT and that was a few years ago. What a treat.
Bob White by George Cooper
There’s a plump little chap in a speckled coat,
And he sings on the zigzag rails remote,
Where he whistles at breezy, bracing morn,
When the buckwheat is ripe, and stacked the corn,
“Bob White! Bob White! Bog White!”…
