Happy Ending For This Thick-Billed Murre Because of Wild Care Cape Cod!

Thank you, Wild Care Cape Cod! You rehabilitated a struggling Thick-billed Murre, known as #55,  back to health over the past 3 weeks. And, on Monday, he was released back into the wild.  (Click on blog link for additional story and photos.) Such a happy ending for this beautiful bird!

The first photo shows #55 and a Common Murre swimming in Wild Care’s Seabird Therapy Pool, which can be warm or cold, saline or fresh. It is also known as “Wild Care’s Day Spa.” This helps them get used to the water again and to make sure they are waterproof. Having the 2nd bird there really helped our Murre recover faster.

The 2nd photo shows the crate where it stayed for the first few days while they were evaluating it and trying to make a diagnosis.

The last 2 photos are screen shots of the video taken by Kerry Reid, Wild Care’s office administrator, when he was released on Cole Rd. Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod Bay on Monday. One shows when he was first let out of the crate and the 2nd one shows him flying away…

What a wonderful ending to a struggling seabird that we found in the middle of  one of the roads in Nickerson State Park 3 weeks ago.

Thank you Wild Care Cape Cod for the amazing work that you do. And thank you, Kerry, for providing us with some awesome photos and video.
