Phil and I decided to go for an early hike the other day and then do a little bird watching. Rock Harbor is one of our favorite places as it seems to attract a lot of shore birds and diving birds. (Click blog link for photo of female.)
There, swimming around the harbor, were a male and a female Red-breasted Merganser. They were just beautiful. I love their long, thin red bill and and red eyes. Have you ever seen one?
The first photograph is of the male and the 2nd of the female. They look so different in their coloring. We always joke that the male looks like he’s having a “bad hair day.”
This was such a pretty view looking down toward the bay at Rock Harbor. There’s still a lot of ice and snow on the water. I loved how the poles are reflected in the little bit of water on the left.
The tides have been really high the past few days. Yesterday I took a walk on the Eastham side of Rock Harbor and was surprised that the jetty was just about under water. There wasn’t much sand to walk on as much of the beach was also under water.
I really like this photograph looking out toward the jetty at Rock Harbor. Even through the heavy clouds, the sky was so pretty.
The winter sunsets here on Cape Cod take your breath away. Each one is so different and all are breath-taking! I took this one from the trail looking out toward Rock Harbor.
I love the winter sunsets on Cape Cod Bay. They are just spectacular! When you see the sky starting to turn a little bit pink, you know its a good one!
Each one is so beautiful and yet so different!
