Beautiful Little Copper Butterfly On Cape Cod.

The butterflies are starting to migrate back to Cape Cod this time of the year. It’s so much fun to see a couple of new ones each day. This Little Copper Butterfly was feasting on the flowers at Fort Hill. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

The Little Copper butterfly is a small butterfly with a wing span of only about 1″. Its fiery tones are just gorgeous among the white flowers. You can see the difference in coloring in the 2nd photograph when its wings are folded up.

Beautiful little butterfly, don’t you think?

Pretty Pink Lady Slipper On Cape Cod.

I  knew it was that time of the year when the pink Lady Slippers bloom, so I was on the lookout on the Beech Forest Trail in Provincetown. It was the perfect place for them to grow. And then there it was… on the side of the trail.

So pretty, don’t you think? Have you seen a Lady Slipper this year?

Colorful Wood Duck At Beech Forest Trail In Provincetown On Cape Cod.

I have only seen a Wood Duck once before in Florida many, many years ago, so it was a big treat to see a male and a female on the pond by the Beech Forest Trail. What a gorgeous bird! Love the reflection of his beautiful head in the water. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

You can see such a dramatic difference in coloring of the female in the 2nd photograph. It was hard to get a decent photograph as she blended in with the pond colors and lily pads so well.

Have you ever seen a Wood Duck? So stunning!

Huge Raccoon High In The tree In Our Yard On Cape Cod!

Yesterday morning about 6:00 am Phil yelled to me, “What is that way up in the tree? It looks like a bear!” I thought… a bear on Cape Cod? Doubtful! But this thing was pretty big! (Click on blog link for other photos.)

I got my camera and clicked away… it was a huge raccoon. It kept climbing and climbing up and up and up! He would climb out on the branches and then keep going up. I bet he was looking for bird’s nests with eggs in them. I don’t think he found any.

You can see just how high he is in the 3rd photograph, about 3/4s of the way up the tree in the center of the photo (see arrow).  And then he came down… head first! That was a first for me! I thought he would come down backwards… like a bear.

Pretty cool, don’t you think? Sure was an exciting early morning!!
