I posted a blog a few weeks ago about these 2 Ospreys that had been evicted from their annual nesting spot by the utility company. For days and even weeks, the two Ospreys sat sadly atop that utility pole looking about. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
A couple of days ago, I was driving home from Rock Harbor when I looked up and saw a massive Osprey nest on top of this dead tree. What a perfect spot for a nest… right next to the salt marsh where lots of food can be found! I sure hope it’s those two Ospreys because they found an awesome place to build their new nest and raise their young.
It was a quiet morning… there wasn’t a ripple on the water as we took a hike at Morris Island. There, on the horizon was a lone sailboat on a mooring. We wondered how anyone got out there to sail it. Hmmm…
The Spring Azure is among the first butterflies of the year. Its early spring appearance helps to identify this species. The undersides of the wings are pale gray to whitish, with small dark spots while outer sides are a light blue. Such a pretty, little butterfly…
Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day! May you find something new or special outside in nature today!
It was such a treat when this little grey Screech Owl moved in to our new owl house last November (2nd photo). He’s been here ever since. We named him Hootie. We see him many days at dusk or at dawn as he hangs his little head out of his little window. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
And then, a few weeks ago, this brown Screech Owl moved into our other owl house. Oh my! What a double treat! We named him Hootie Two. We have had so much fun watching out for them. Fingers crossed that they find a mate and have lots of little Screech Owls!!
Update: Now the brown owl is in the grey owl’s nest and the grey owl is in the brown owl’s nest. Are there 2 grey owls and 2 brown owls? Or are they playing musical owl houses? Maybe we’ll have lots of little owl babies!!
It seems like everywhere you go, you see these beautiful purple or pink wildflowers growing along the side of the roads. They are so pretty and add such a vibrant splash of color.
When they seed in late summer, their seed pods turn a silver color and are so pretty dangling in the wind. Sometimes they’re called “money plants.”
