Inaturalist… Great New App For Identifying Different Species In Nature.

We found this great new app called Inaturalist, that will identify just about anything living out in nature. It has been so much fun to use. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

You just hold your iphone up to a flower or plant or bird, or any species in nature and it will tell you what it is. It is so cool and so educational. I have learned so many new species in the past couple of weeks!

It’s just fun to experiment and identify the different kinds of species that you see every day along the trails! Have you ever used the Inaturalist app?

Quick, Little Weasel On The Trail At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

We were taking a hike at Fort Hill the other day when we saw a little Vole scampering down the middle of the trail out by the meadow.  And then, as quick as anything, this little Weasel darted out of the underbrush and dragged the Vole back in. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

This Weasel smacked the Vole a few times and then came out onto the trail to check us out. We just clicked away.

It was a pretty cool experience as it happened so fast and we had never seen a Weasel at Fort Hill before. Have you?

I stopped at the salt marsh to catch that gorgeous sunset when I saw 6 deer grazing on the marsh. They looked up at me… I think I was as surprised as they were.

But oh! What a beautiful photo of them at dusk with those soft pastel colors. What do you think?

We had stopped  at Hemenway for a picnic lunch when this coyote strolled by… and then another. I couldn’t get my camera out in time.  And then a few minutes later, one strolled back and then came the other. I was able to get my  iPhone out and got one quick photograph. This is it!

It was cool as we’d never seen coyotes there before! Have you?

We were just commenting that things at Fort Hill had been pretty quiet lately, when this big, healthy Coyote strolled by. Phil jumped out of the car and clicked away. (Click on blog link for other photo. )

And then, as we were getting ready to leave, another one appeared on the trail. Wow! Double treat!

Diamond-Backed Terrapins At Boat Meadow Creek On Cape Cod.

If you ever walk over the bridge on Bridge Road, stop and look over the side into the creek. You never know what you might see! (Click on blog link for other photos.)

Yesterday I was walking to the beach when I looked over and saw several Diamond-backed Terrapins swimming in the creek. They are so beautiful. I love it when they stick their little nose above water.

“Northern Diamond-backed Terrapins inhabit marshes which border quiet salt or brackish tidal waters. They can also be found in mud flats, shallow bays, coves, and tidal estuaries.”

Have you seen any of these terrapins swimming in the creek? It’s such a treat to see one… never mind several!
