A Few Trees Down On The Red Maple Swamp Trail At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

We hadn’t been to Fort Hill for a hike in weeks due to all of the late January snow and then the blizzard. (Click on blog link for more photos.)

The Red Maple Swamp Trail had several trees and large branches down across the trail and boardwalk.

You can still navigate the trail by ducking under or stepping over the large limbs. I know that the National Seashore has been very conscientious will their trail upkeep, so I’m sure that it will be cleaned up in no time, No matter what, it is still one of my favorite hikes!

You never know what you might see while walking along the beaches of Cape Cod. We saw this very interesting piece of driftwood art on Coast Guard Beach the other day.  It was pretty cool, don’t you think?

A Very Snowy Red Maple Swamp Trail On Cape Cod.

The Red Maple Swamp Trail at Fort Hill is still pretty “snowed in.” You can see just how high the snow is by the fence. The snow is almost up to the top rail. Yikes! There’s not going to be much hiking there for a while… unless you bring your snowshoes!

We Made The Most Of Our Surprise Snowfall Yesterday On Cape Cod.

We went to bed Saturday night thankful that we hadn’t gotten the snow that had been predicted, just the frigid cold. But, when we got up Sunday morning, there was about 4” of new snow so it was time to shovel again and the wind chill was 2 degrees.

We went out for coffee and a bagel and then decided to drive around and see if there were any new “snowy” photo ops for my blog. Wow! The snow was fluffy and beautiful and made everything white again!

I loved this photo looking down at Coast Guard Beach and seeing all of the new snow. Look at those huge waves! That wind sure was blowing!

Lots Of Snow At Wiley Park On Cape Cod.

We went snowshoeing at Wiley Park the other day and there’s still a lot of snow! It was fun to snowshoe on the trails and up and over the bridge. With the forecast for temps in the 20s and for more snow, I think the snow will be there for quite a while.

When You’re Sick of Shoveling, Make Lemonade Out Of Lemons!

After shoveling most of Monday and then waking up Tuesday to more wind blown snow, we decided to “make lemonade out of lemons” and have some fun! (Click on blog link for other photos.)

We got our snowshoes that Phil had just put new straps on and hiking poles and put on our warmest clothes with gaiters to keep our feet dry and drove up to Fort Hill. It was just glorious with the sun shining and the views spectacular!

We hadn’t been snowshoeing since we lived in Colorado at least 15 years ago. It was like riding a bike and just so much fun! So glad Phil fixed those straps last week! Nothing like a lot of fun in the middle of a lot of snow!

Snowshoeing On Cape Cod?

When we had that surprise snowstorm of 8” the week before Christmas, we got our snowshoes out thinking it might be fun to do some snowshoeing around here. We snowshoed quite a bit in Colorado and loved it!  (Click on blog link for fun snowshoeing video.)

But, when we saw them, the rubber straps had all disintegrated and totally fallen apart. We did a little research and ordered some new straps. Phil got them all put back together the other day and then we thought… I wonder if it will ever snow enough to snowshoe around here again as we have never snowshoed here. And now this….

With all the hype, it will be interesting to see how much snow we really do get. Hopefully enough to have some fun, but certainly not what they are forecasting! Fingers crossed…
