The Common Eider is such a beautiful water bird. I love it when I see them swimming around. There are quite a few of them at Boat Meadow Creek and Rock Harbor this winter. (Click on blog link for more photos.)
The first photograph is of an adult male. The 2nd photo is of a male during its first winter. And the last photograph is of a female Common Eider.
Any birders out there, please let me know if this is correct!
We were so surprised to see these 3 Double-crested Cormorants perched on this dock at Rock Harbor yesterday. I haven’t seen one in a long time and thought they were long gone to milder climates! (Click on blog link for other photo.)
But, the figures looked so familiar that we stopped and I got a couple of photographs. Have you ever seen a Double-crested Cormorant on Cape Cod in December?
I saw this tall pole at one of the harbors here on Cape Cod and thought… I guess they don’t want any birds, especially Seagulls, perched up on top of that pole. Ouch!
I was walking along the beach on the Eastham side of Rock Harbor when I saw this reflection of the CG36500, the boat that was featured in the Disney movie, The Finest Hours. Unbelievable story… and hard to imagine rescuing 33 men in this boat in a raging nor’easter off of Cape Cod on January 29, 1952.
When I turned around to head back home, the reflection was gone.
Pretty cool, huh?
