It Was Freezing On Cape Cod This Past Weekend!

Saturday and Sunday were days where you didn’t want to venture outside with temps in the high teens and low 20s  and wind chills in the singe digits. Brrr! (Click on blog link for other photos.)

You can see the ice chunks on Cape Cod Bay and along the shores. Rock Harbor also has a lot of ice, but it is still moving so the fishing boats are likely not stuck there as temperatures will go up this week. The last photo is of Boat Meadow Creek that is also full of ice.

It’s the fist time this winter that I’ve seen ice along the shore of Cape Cod Bay and up into the creek. I wonder where all the birds go that frequent these waters for food?

River Reflections On Cape Cod.

We were sitting by the river having our picnic lunch in the car and the water was so still. The reflections on the water were just beautiful. (Click on blog link for more photographs.)

I really liked the reflection of the boathouse with the flag. But then I couldn’t decide if I liked the simplicity of the first one or the one with the dock in it.

What do you think?

We Got To See A Wild Care Cape Cod Release Yesterday!

Phil and I stopped at Boat Meadow Beach yesterday around lunch time to see if there were any birds, as it was low tide. (Click on blog link for other photos.)  And, a couple of minutes later, a car drove up and a lady pulled 2 plastic tubs from her car. Hmmmm….

Might there be birds in them? I had seen many videos of Wild Care Cape Cod when they release their rehabilitated birds and they usually come in a plastic tub. I grabbed my phone and ran down near the water, just in time to watch her release 2 Seagulls and take videos as they flew away.

Very cool! Wild Care Cape Cod does an excellent job in caring for their wildlife whether it be birds, mammals, turtles… whatever. They are experts in their field. It was such a treat to see this! We were in the perfect place at the perfect time!

Razorbill At Wellfleet Harbor On Cape Cod.

Phil and I were on our way up to Provincetown and decided to stop for a picnic breakfast at Wellfleet Harbor. We had packed our usual 1/2 bagel with peanut butter and jelly and a small thermos of oatmeal. Perfect for a picnic.

There were a lot of Buffleheads swimming about in the bay. And then I saw this other bird farther out. I got my camera and clicked away and got a photograph that could at least identify the seabird.

When I contacted Stephanie Ellis, the Executive Director at Wild Care Cape Cod, she confirmed that it was a Razorbill which is a large seabird with black upperparts and white underparts. Its thick, curved bill has a white band around it, which you cannot see in the photograph.

Have you ever seen a Razorbill? That was my first! Thank you, Stephanie for your expertise!
