The handicapped mat at Coast Guard Beach is installed and ready for summer. It is made of a heavy woven material so that big-tired wheelchairs can access the beach.
However, with all of the erosion to the beach over the winter, the slope down to the beach is pretty steep. At high tide, there is almost no beach at the end of the trail. The tide comes in very high, almost to the dunes.
I’ve seen this pretty, little white Mouse-Ear Chickweed blooming on many of the different trails here on Cape Cod, as well as by some of the parking lots.
Its flower is only about 1/2″ and it grows from May to September, so you have plenty of time to find it!
These two Laughing Gulls were taking it all in on the back side of Coast Guard Beach the other day. They get their name because their high-pitched call sounds just like they are laughing!
Love their black heads and red bills!
