The beautiful, hundreds of years old, iconic tree at Fort Hill on Cape Cod has fallen. How very sad. We were shocked to see this beauty down. It has graced the landscape of Fort Hill, part of the National Seashore, for many, many years.
We stopped at Fort Hill again this morning and the owner of the house and the “tree” was outside. We expressed our condolences. She said she was having “Visiting Hours” for anyone who wanted to stop by. 🙁
Unbelievable what Mother Nature can do! What storm!
It was a beautiful day for a hike at Fort Hill, one of our favorite places to hikes. I love to park in the lower parking lot and take the Red Maple Swamp Trail through the swamp on the boardwalk to Hemenway Landing. From there you can hike up to Carving Rock and along Nauset Marsh and up to the overlook.
This was one of the prettiest days I have hiked the Salt Pond Trail in Eastham. The colors were just gorgeous! It looks like a pastoral painting, don’t you think? This is the little river that leads from Salt Pond out to Nauset Marsh.
And then I edited it another way. What do you think?
It was getting late in the day when we stopped at the overlook of Nauset Marsh at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham. The sun on the water was just spectacular!
I love that the Great Blue Herons hang around here in the winter. They must be able to find enough food in the salt marshes and the coves and bay that do not freeze over in the winter.
This Great Blue was fishing in a little pond by the side of Nauset Marsh along the Salt Marsh Trail in Eastham. Looks like he is ready to catch lunch!
My favorite bird! I love it! So beautiful…
