Oyster Boat In Wellfleet On Cape Cod

Wellfleet on Cape Cod is known for its oysters. The  Wellfleet oysters are grown out and harvested in and from the estuaries of Wellfleet Harbor, located in the Northeastern region of Cape Cod Bay, so they are locally grown!

Wellfleet will host their 16th Annual  Oyster Fest on October 15th and 16th which brings in thousands of people for the weekend. It’s supposed to be great fun!

I loved this little oyster boat which is docked in Wellfleet Harbor. I wonder if you can get oysters right there? So cool looking, don’t you think?

The Coast Guard Boat CG36500 At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod

It was such fun to go aboard the Coast Guard’s boat, CG36500 which is docked at Rock Harbor for the season. You can go inside and learn all about the greatest Coast Guard small boat rescue in history. It is an amazing story. The movie, The Finest Hours, came  out last January is all about the unbelievable feat!

When you are finished there is a little shack across the parking lot with lots of CG36500 memorabilia which you can purchase. I got the latest edition of the book called, Rescue.

If you’re in Rock Harbor, it is a very cool thing to do …and very educational!

Handicapped Mat At Coast Guard Beach In Eastham On Cape Cod Is Awesome!

There is a handicapped mat, almost like a ramp-type mat, at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham on Cape Cod. It is awesome in that people with wheelchairs can get up and down the mat to access the beach.

Today I saw a man in a wheelchair with big rubber tires using the mat to come up from the beach. How wonderful that handicapped people can get to the beach and enjoy it.

What a great invention!

Eastham Historical Society And Original Schoolhouse On Cape Cod

I f you’ve never been to the Eastham Historical Society by the Salt Pond Visitor’s Center on Cape Cod, put it on your list. You can get a tour of the museum and tons of artifacts from old Eastham. It is fascinating.

And…the original schoolhouse adjoins the building so you can get a first hand look at what a typical classroom looked like way back when and even sit in one of the desks. It is really cool, especially for kids.

They have field trips that go there and the students can dress up in period dress, just like the kids who went to school there. What an awakening it is to them!
