The waves and the bank of clouds on the horizon were just beautiful at Coast Guard Beach, part of the National Seashore. The temperatures have been warm enough lately to take a long walk without a jacket or sweatshirt.
Yesterday we walked the beach in shorts and a t-shirt. It was 79 degrees so we headed over to the bayside and went for swim! Awesome for October 10th!
When a crab washes up on shore, it’s lunch for the first finder, which happened to be this Seagull. He wasn’t letting it go as other Seagulls landed nearby.
If you walk along the ocean beaches on Cape Cod, you are sure to see seals swimming along the shore, diving in and out of the waves. I’ve seen a lot of seals at Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Beach in the past few days.
If you walk all the way to Nauset Spit at low tide from either Nauset Beach or Coast Guard Beach, you can see what I call “seal island.” It is a sand bar, not too far from shore, that the seals pile on at low tide. You can hear their distinctive sounds from quite far away.
This 2nd photograph was taken from the end of Coast Guard Beach a few days ago.
They are still a lot of surfers and stand-up paddle boarders on Coast Guard Beach, part of Cape Cod National Seashore. It was amazing to see so many people on the beach and surfers, both board surfers and stand up paddle boarders, on a beautiful September day.
We caught a few on our cameras but this paddle boarder was having a great time catching many, many waves.
It was great to see this big class of entire families enjoying the knowledge of the National Seashore ranger on Coast Guard Beach. I’m sure they are learning about the beach and the salt marsh and erosion and the sharks and anything that is important on the National Seashore.
What a wonderful experience for all who were involved! It looked like a lot of fun!
