When it’s windy out, and it’s been very windy lately, we head to an inland trail. We have found quite a few at Nickerson State Park in Brewster. (Click on blog link to see other photo.)
One of our favorite hikes is hiking part way around Cliff Pond and then around Little Cliff Pond. It is just gorgeous and the trails are maintained so well. We are always so impressed.
Beautiful, don’t you think? The kettle ponds are so pretty and look at that sky!

I was up in Boston last weekend when Phil texted me that he was going to go for a hike. With the AllTrails App, he sent me his route around Cliff Pond. I could log on at anytime and see exactly where he was, which you can see on the map. The app would also send me periodic texts of where he was or he could send me a text of where he was on the route.
What a great feature, called Lifeline, especially when hiking alone. Even if you never need it, it’s always safe and fun to see where someone is hiking!
When it gets cold and windy on Cape Cod, find a hike in the woods. You will be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the trails can be at this time of the year and how sheltered they are from the wind.

We decided to take a hike after breakfast the other day as the weather was supposed to turn with wind, rain and a bit of snow in the forecast. (Click on blog link to see other photos.)
We had never hiked the Higgins Pond Loop Trail at Nickerson State Park, so we headed out. What a pretty trail.
It was really cloudy so I didn’t think we’d get many good photographs, but when I got home and looked on the computer, they surprised me. The skies were beautiful!
We downloaded one of the hikes at Nickerson State Park and started out the other day. We were only into the hike a couple of minutes when we heard a beep on the phone app. There was an alert that we had gone “off-route.”
What a wonderful addition to the AllTrails app. You can leave it in your pocket but if you go off your intended route, it will beep and let you know so you don’t go way out of the way. So nice…
