Low Tide At The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary On Cape Cod

There is a wonderful hike at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary where you can go out to the outer beaches, over a boardwalk. But only go at low tide or near low tide or you could get stuck!

It was a glorious day last week with a blue sky and beautiful puffy clouds. We hiked the Silver Spring Trail and then out to the outer beach where we saw a lot of shore birds.

I took a photograph of the boardwalk from 2 different perspectives… straight on and at an angle. I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. What do you think?

The Shadows Are Getting Longer On Cape Cod

I rode my bike down to First Encounter Beach in Eastham  so I could get a photograph of the beautiful beach early in the morning.

I loved this photograph. I laughed when I saw that I got my long shadow and those of the signs and beach fence as I photographed the beautiful beach. Funny, don’t you think?

It makes me think that summer is almost over as the shadows are getting so much longer this time of year.

Great Blue Heron Fishing At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod

I’ve seen this Great Blue Heron fishing at low tide at Rock Harbor several times. He makes quite a squawk as he flies onto the muddy shore. And there he stands, ready to get the pickings in the nearby waters.

The Great Blue Heron is my very favorite bird. He is such a magnificent creature!

The Rock At Rock Harbor In Orleans On Cape Cod

This is the rock for which Rock Harbor on Cape Cod is named. It is pretty huge and lies off the beach on the Eastham side.

These Double-Crested Cormorants were enjoying their leisure time at low tide on the rock, as it’s almost time for them to migrate south. You can see how low the tide is by the exposed seagrass which is not visible during high tide.

The second photograph is of the rock out in the distance on the right looking from the Rock Harbor channel. The rock looks so small in the distance, don’t you think?
