The CG36500 Is Docked At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod.

The CG36500 is the famous Coast Guard boat that was depicted in the Disney movie, The Finest Hours, because of its incredible rescue of 32 crewmen from a sinking ship off of the coast of Cape Cod in 1952.

During the summer you can go on board and see where those 32 crewmen survived. It is worth the trip just to see the boat. If you haven’t watched the movie, put that on your list too! It’s truly amazing!

Love The Reflection Of The CG36500 At Rock Harbor.

I was walking along the beach on the Eastham side of Rock Harbor when I saw this reflection of the CG36500, the boat that was featured in the Disney movie, The Finest Hours. Unbelievable story… and hard to imagine rescuing 33 men in this boat in a raging nor’easter off of Cape Cod on January 29, 1952.

When I turned around to head back home, the reflection was gone.

Pretty cool, huh?

Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat CG-36500 On Cape Cod.

o

“Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat CG-36500 is a historic, 36-foot lifeboat that is berthed at Rock Harbor in Orleans, Massachusetts. Built in 1946, it is notable for its involvement in the SS Pendleton rescue, one of the most daring such events recorded in the history of the United States Coast Guard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, and now serves as a museum boat.”

You can see this historic boat, featured in the Disney film “The Finest Hours,  at Rock Harbor in the summer months or at Meetinghouse Pond  in the winter months. I took this photograph a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t read the book, The Finest Hours, or seen the movie with the same name produced in 2016, put it on your list. It was a incredible, historic rescue of 32 of 33 crewmen in the dead of winter when the SS Pendleton broke apart off of Chatham, MA.
