The moorings were all tagged and put in the water this past week at Arey’s Pond Boat Yard. And, our wonderful custom-built Catboat has been launched and is on the dock waiting for its first sail of the season. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
It’s been so much fun having a sailboat… again. I grew up racing sailboats with my brother and Phil had his own sailboat. During the shut-down of Covid, we decided that it would be fun to own a sailboat, get back out on the water and enjoy sailing once again. There’s no feeling like it! We’ve had a blast these past few years and are looking forward to another breezy, wind-filled summer of sailing!
We had stopped to watch all of the bird activity at Arey’s Pond the other morning when we saw 3 Belted Kingfishers flying about looking for food. (Click on blog link for other photo.)
I couldn’t get them all in one frame but this one looked like a baby waiting for his parent to feed him. Meanwhile, we watched the adult eat what looked like a turtle and then something else…maybe a fish?
Phil and I each took a photograph of this reflection on Arey’s Pond the other day. The first photo is his interpretation and the 2nd one is mine. (Clock on blog link for other photo.)
We were so surprised to see 2 seals swimming about in Arey’s Pond. We thought it must be a fluke, but we’ve seen them there several times now. That’s a long swim from the ocean through Pleasant Bay and Little Pleasant Bay and down the river to Arey’s Pond.
Yesterday was Arey’s Pond Annual Cat Gathering in Pleasant Bay. (Click on blog link for other photos.)
The Cat Gathering is one of the largest gatherings of catboats on the East Coast. Catboats and other classic wooden boats are invited to participate in this just-for-fun regatta through Little Pleasant Bay, into Pleasant Bay and back.
It was a perfect day with a good wind and sunny skies and lots of catboats out in the bay. I counted about 90 boats in Pleasant Bay! Wow! It was quite a sight to see!
