Red Cardinal Wildflowers At The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary On Cape Cod.

I was so surprised to see these gorgeous, bright red Cardinal Wildflowers on the Silver Spring Trail at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. They were just beautiful and growing along the trail by the spring. I’ve never seen them there before at all so this was a big treat!

Have you ever seen a Cardinal Wildflower?

Pretty Yellow Celandine Wildflower On Cape Cod.

Celandine is a leafy plant with hairy stems and tiny, deep yellow 4-petaled flowers in loose clusters. The flowers are only 3/4″ while the plants grows from 1-3 feet from May through July. I saw many of these wildflowers on the trail by the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham in late August!

So delicate and pretty, don’ t you think?

The Pink Water Willow Wildflowers Are Blooming By Cape Cod Waters!

The Water Willows are in full bloom near the waters and swamps on Cape Cod. You can see them on the boardwalk on The Red Maple Swamps Trail at Fort Hill or going over the bridge on the Silver Spring Trail at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. They are so pretty and so unique. (Click on blog link to see other photos.)

The flower is only 1/2′ to 1″ while the plant is quite large growing 3-9 feet. They bloom in late July and August near shallow water.

The first photograph is a closeup of the flower. The 2nd photograph shows how they grow in clusters and the 3rd one is how uniquely they grow on the stem.

Have you ever seen a Water-Willow? So pretty and unique, don’t you think?

If You’re On Cape Cod, Look For The Hydrangeas!

Hydrangeas seem to be “the” Cape Cod flower. They grow beautifully here and are certainly abundant! When we were building our home a few years ago, the two staples that I wanted for our “Cape Cod garden” were Hydrangeas and Daisies.

Depending on the acidity in the soil, they can be shades of blue or purple.

So pretty, don’t you think?
