Great Blue Heron At Herring Pond On Cape Cod.

We frequently stop at Herring Pond to see if there are any new birds that have migrated to the area. I had my binoculars and was scanning the waters when Phil said, “Oh look!” (Click on blog link for other photo.)

There was a Great Blue Heron about 20 feet away standing by the side of the parking lot. What a treat!

I was afraid to open the window as I might scare him away, so I clicked away through the car window… even with it drizzling outside.

Gorgeous bird, don’t you think?

Beautiful Bluebird At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

We were taking a hike at Fort Hill the other day when I saw some movement up in one of the trees. I looked up and the tree was full of Bluebirds. How cool! This one stayed there long enough for me to take a photograph and then they all flew away.

Beautiful bird, don’t you think?

Beautiful Ring-Necked Ducks at Herring Pond On Cape Cod.

There was a nice flock of about 30 Ring-necked Ducks at Herring Pond the other day. They were just gorgeous! It was the first time we had seen Ring-necked Ducks on Cape Cod.

We saw a lot of these ducks out in Colorado way up high on a pond in the Rocky Mountains, so it was a treat to see some of them here too.

Ring-necked Ducks are medium diving ducks that have a blue-gray bill with a white ring and a black tip. I always wondered why they aren’t called “Ring-billed Ducks.”

Beautiful bird, don’t you think? Have you ever seen a Ring-necked Duck?

Cute, Little White-Breasted Nuthatch In Our Birdhouse On Cape Cod.

This little White-breasted Nuthatch has moved into the birdhouse by our bedroom and greets us each morning by sticking his little head out the door. He is just adorable. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

In years past we have always had a Downy Woodpecker move into the birdhouse outside our bedroom window for the winter, but this little guy has been living there for a while. We’ll see who is there in a few weeks…

So cute, Don’t you think?
