The Orange And Yellow Bittersweet Is Abundant At Fort Hill On Cape Cod

bittersweetblog1

You can see the orange and yellow Bittersweet berries on so many of the trails at Fort Hill on Cape Cod. It’s a vine that grows on the bushes and has such a pretty berry in the fall. It reminds me of my Mom who used to pick it each fall and make wreaths for our doors. They were so pretty.

I loved how you can see Nauset marsh and the Coast Guard Station in the background.

Hilarious Seagull On Car Roof At Fort Hill On Cape Cod

seagullcarblog

We were just finishing a little hike on one of the trails at Fort Hill in Eastham on Cape Cod when we saw this car at the top parking lot with a Seagull perched on the roof. I don’t think the driver knew it was there, but everyone walking by did. The Seagull just stood there and paraded around on the roof, enjoying the beautiful scenery and all of the attention.

I clicked away as it was so cute. One of the cars stopped on the way out and asked if we had seen the guy’s license plate. I say, “No.” He said there was a Seagull on the license plate.

How funny is that! So I went back and clicked away again. Too funny! (I deleted the number on the license late…)

Mockingbird On Fort Hill Trail In Eastham On Cape Cod

Mockingbirds love to hang out on the hiking trails at Fort Hill on Cape Cod. They got their name because they love to “mock” or make sounds like the other birds. They are pretty cool.

As you first enter the trail off the lower parking lot, you can see many Mockingbirds in the bushes and trees to the left.

Have you ever heard a Mockingbird?

Large Crab Almost Hit Me On The Head At Fort Hill In Eastham On Cape Cod

We were hiking at Fort Hill in Eastham, on the National Seashore, the other day when this huge crab landed about 6″ away from me with a loud thud. I was pretty startled. I looked up and there was a crow  who must have been having lunch when dropped it out of the tree. How bizarre. It almost hit me on the head. I have never been hit by a crab before!

The funny thing was… I had just read a story on the news about a hawk dropping a five pound fish on a lady walking down a city street and I was telling a friend that morning. This hawk was eating a fish up in a tree above her and he  must have lost his grip when it fell on her head. She got a couple of cuts and scratches. That was one big fish!

How coincidental is that? Funny or what!

Seaside Goldenrod Wildflowers Are Blooming Near The Salt Marshes On Cape Cod

The Seaside Goldenrod wildflowers are gorgeous this year and blooming all around the salt marshes here on Cape Cod. I never knew that were different kinds of Goldenrod.

Seaside Goldenrod has larger flowers than all other Goldenrod flowers. The flower are small, just .25 to .5″. The bloom from August through November near the salt marshes, so you still have plenty of time to see these beautiful wildflowers!

I took this photograph at Fort Hill in Eastham. The meadows are full of Goldenrod.
