I went for a walk on the bay side last evening and there were so many shore birds, I had to run home to get my camera. I haven’t seen that many shorebirds in months!
The Semipalmated Plovers were everywhere, dashing around trying to find their food in the mud flats. Semipalmated plovers are small, plump shorebirds with a short bill, long orangish legs, and a single black “necklace” of feathers.
An interesting fact: The name “semipalmated” refers to the partial webbing between the bird’s toes.
We took a drive down to Boat Meadow Beach yesterday morning and there, sitting with her chair in the water, was someone who had found the perfect spot to cool off in this hot, humid weather. I loved it!
I rode by this beautiful Red-tailed Hawk who was perched on the dead tree by Boat Meadow Creek at the beginning of my bike ride yesterday morning. And then, there he was, still on the same branch at the end of my ride. I figured he must be waiting for me to take his photograph!
He certainly was very patient as all of the other birds were dive-bombing him while squawking away!
