Beautiful Sanderlings At Coast Guard Beach On Cape Cod.

Phil and I were taking a walk on Coast Guard Beach the other day when we saw some little birds scurrying about in the and. At first we thought they were some late Piping Plovers, but the coloring wasn’t right.  As we got closer, we realized that they were Sanderlings. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

“The first photo shows a Sanderling in winter plumage, the second photo shows a Sanderling molting out of its colorful breeding plumage.”
Thank you, Stephanie (Executive Director at Wild Care Cape Cod) for your expertise and knowledge of these wonderful little birds!

Gorgeous Great Blue Heron High In The Tree At Rock Harbor On Cape Cod.

I usually see this Great Blue Heron way up high in the tree at Rock Harbor when I’m out biking early in the morning, but I never have my camera with me. (Click on blog link to see other photos.)

The other day we were having a picnic breakfast at Rock Harbor when I looked up in the tree and there he was… about 30′ up! And I had my camera right there.

Love the first photo where he is calling out with his croaking sound. The 2nd one shows him scratching his neck with those long toes! And the last one shows you how high he was up in the tree.

Beautiful bird, don’t you think?

Stunning Little Spotted Sandpiper On Cape Cod.

We were put scouting along Little Pleasant Bay, looking for new places to launch our kayaks. We stopped at this launch that looks pretty promising when this little Spotted Sandpiper hopped up on the retaining wall. It was just beautiful.

Phil very quietly opened his window and clicked away. I love the coloring. What do you think?
