Beautiful Ruby-Throated Hummingbird At Fort Hill On Cape Cod.

We stopped at Fort Hill to see if there were any Monarch butterflies flitting about. I saw several of them by the Trumpet-Creeper wildflowers on the left side of the road going up to the overlook.

As I was clicking away, this female Ruby-throated Hummingbird landed on one of the branches only a few feet away. I only got 2 photos before it took off. What a treat!

Have you seen any hummingbirds this summer?

The Monarch Butterflies Are Back On Cape Cod!

You know that summer is really here when the Monarch butterflies are back here on Cape Cod. They are so beautiful with their orange and black distinctive colors. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

This is the first Monarch butterfly that I’ve seen so far this summer, yesterday morning at Fort Hill. It landed right on a Milkweed plant which is what they love to feed on.

Have you seen a Monarch butterfly yet this year?

The Boardwalk On The Red Maple Swamp Trail On Cape Cod.

The boardwalk on the Red Maple Swamp Trail at Fort Hill is lush this summer. It’s a great hike over the swamp and you’re sure to see lots of wildflowers and hear the diversity of birds singing in the trees.

It’s one of our favorite hikes!

Beautiful Little Canada Mayflower Blooming on Cape Cod.

It is the season for the Canada Mayflower to bloom on Cape Cod. I have seen it on many of the trails in the past few days. If you hike Fort Hill, you can see it on the sides of the boardwalk. It is so pretty and delicate. (Click on blog link for other photo.)

Canada Mayflower is a small woodland plant, only growing 3′ – 6″ in May and June. Its 1/4″ flowers look like miniatureĀ  bottle brushes next to bright shiny leaves.

When the Mayflower blooms, you know that summer is right around the corner! Have you ever seen oneĀ  this year?

Exquisite Lesser Stitchwort Wildflower At Fort Hill On Cape Cod!

If you look very closely along the trails at Fort Hill, you will see this tiny, little white wildflower among the tall grasses on the side of the trail. It is smaller than a dime and very easy to miss. And then, if you get very close to it, you will see its delicate beauty… those pink stamens are just exquisite!

I think it is one of the prettiest wildflowers that I’ve seen. What do you think?
