I love it when the baby birds are fed by their parents at our bird feeders. It is such a beautiful scene to watch. This little Baltimore Oriole doesn’t look much smaller than its parent. (Click blog link to see other photo.)
So much fun to watch them grow and right in our backyard…
The pink Dianthus Deptford wildflowers that are blooming at Fort Hill now are just spectacular! They are tiny little flowers, only about 1/2″. They have up to 5 stamens and 2 pistils which are twisted.
It is such a unique, delicate wildflower. I love the dots and the purple stamens.
Have you ever seen a Dianthus Deptford wildflower? They are blooming all over Fort Hill, so they are easy to see. The pink will catch your eye along the trails.
My favorite time of the day is riding my bike across the salt marsh each morning in the early morning. This is what greeted me the other morning. There were 6 Great Egrets out on the salt marsh, but I could only fit 3 in the frame. Not bad…
It doesn’t get much better. Gorgeous, don’t you think?
I hadn’t seen a Little Wood Satyr butterfly in a couple of years and this one was stunning. It landed on a leaf on the side of the Doane Rock Trail to Coast Guard Beach.
The Little Wood Satyr butterfly lives on woodland edges as well as salt marshes, which explains why we saw it there on that trail.
It was such a treat to see the Osprey and 2 chicks on their nest yesterday. It looked like the young ones were testing their wings and standing abilities. So cute! (Click on blog link for another photo.)
In the 2nd photograph the parent had just flown in with a fish which the little ones were devouring. So much fun to watch them way up high on their nest!
This was the nest that blew down last winter in the high winds. They sure did a good job rebuilding!
