You can hike to the Cranberry Bog House on the Pamet Cranberry Bog Trail in Truro. It’s a beautiful hike and it’s fun to see the old bog house. (Click on blog link for other photos.)
“The historic Cranberry Bog House Truro is a remnant of a once-thriving commercial cranberry bog operated by the Pamet Cranberry Company in Truro from the late 19th century until the 1950s. Originally built around 1830, the Bog House was moved and raised in 1880 to serve as a two-story preparation and living space for workers during harvest season.
The lower level was for preparing cranberries for shipment, while the upper floor provided living quarters, often for migrant workers, including many from Cape Verde. The bog was flooded and drained seasonally, and while the bogs have since returned to a natural state, the house remains a testament to this history. “
Interesting tidbit: If you look closely, you can see the front door is on the 2nd level!
