We decided to hike the Pamet Cranberry Bog Trail on January 1st as our “First Day Hike of 2023.” (Click on blog link for other photo.)
It was a gorgeous, sunny day with temps in the 50s. It felt more like April than January. So we ventured out to Truro to hike one of our favorite hikes. The views are beautiful as is the trail, but my favorite part is the dunes at the end of the trail.
You have to hike way up the dune and then way down on the other side to get to the ocean. I haven’t been there in a while but it seems like the hike down the other side was much steeper than I remember. Maybe a little beach erosion on that side? There is also a very long tidal pool that stretches down the beach.
Always a beautiful hike and always something new to discover!
Cap’t Cass at Rock Harbor is starting to look really good! You can see all of the progress that they are making with the renovating and painting.
Just to see the buoys hanging back up on the side of the restaurant is so cool! We all can’t wait until spring when we can walk through those doors again and enjoy some of that delicious seafood!
Maybe this hike on the Nauset Marsh Trail can be your own “First Day Hike of 2023.”
“Massachusetts is known for starting revolutions, so on Jan. 1, 1992, when 380 people gathered for the premier First Day Hike at the Blue Hills Reservation it is no surprise that this Massachusetts outdoor initiative swept the nation,” the agency said. “DCR celebrates over 30 years of this tradition in Massachusetts. Today, all 50 states are offering First Day Hikes in state parks across the country!”
Nauset Marsh Trail is a gorgeous hike around the salt pond and Nauset Marsh and the through the beautiful woods back to the visitor’s center. It doesn’t get much prettier!
Oh my! I saw the pinkish sky out my windows and knew it would be a gorgeous sunrise over the salt marsh. I wasn’t disappointed. It was spectacular! What a way to start the last day of 2022!
It was such a pretty morning to photograph the Provincetown Causeway. The sun was just perfect. You can see the lighthouse way in the distance.
“The total length out and back is about 2.5 miles and in spots can require a jump or crawl. At high tide the rocks can be submerged or slippery so it is necessary to be cautious and aware of the tides.”
